The Four Kinds of Persons in the World

The Buddha taught there are four kinds of persons existing in the world.

1) One who is practicing neither for his or her own welfare nor for the welfare of others.

2) One who is practicing for the welfare of others but not for his or her own welfare.

3) One who is practicing for his or her own welfare but not for the welfare of others.

4) One who is practicing both for his or her own welfare and for the welfare of others.

The Buddha commends the fourth type of person.
