A Practitioner's Words

One of my students was asked why they had left their former tradition and become a Practitioner of the Buddha-Dharma.

The student shared their answer with me. I share their answer with you.

"For me the answer is three-fold.

1.  Buddhism satisfies a need I have for a sense of spiritual connection.

2. My practice is just that ... my practice. The quality of my experience and learning is dependent on no one else.

3. Buddhism is as good a system of ethics as any I know. Practicing as best I can the Four Noble Truths, the Precepts, the Eightfold Path, and the Four Immeasurables, I have all I need not to be a jerk."
