Ch'an Patriarch Hui-neg asked, "Where have you come from?'
Huai-jang answered, "Mount Sung."
"What things has come thus?" the Patriarch asked.
"To speak of it as a thing is to miss it," Huai-jang answered.
"Can it be cultivated and realized?" Patriarch Hui-neng asked.
His student answered, "It's not that there is no cultivation and realization, but it won't do to be obsessed."
And the Ch'an Patriarch responded, "This non-obsession is just what all buddhas keep in mind. You are thus, and I too am thus."
