The Miracle of Ordinariness

Zen practice becomes simply "letting things be" as they really are. Every facet of life finds its concrete place in this light. This level of practice could be described as "basking in the miracle of ordinariness." Zen masters describe it wonderfully: "When hungry, eat; when thirsty, take a drink; when sleepy, go to sleep." This is a life in total harmony with one's true nature, an authentic way of living one's life.

Yet, if Zen is just about eating when hungry, drinking when thirsty, sleeping when sleepy, what is the difference between life after awakening and any other life? The answer is no difference—and all the difference in the world.
