We Learn When We Observe

It can be difficult to recognize unwholesome habits.

Anger, jealousy, judging, greed, and the hunger for revenge are life long habits that we find difficult to let go.

We can approach this “letting go” in two ways.

We can crush or smother (or try to crush) these unwholesome habits, but this crushing is an act of violence and it will give rise to other unwholesome thoughts; failure, disappointment, or even surrender (perhaps pride and arrogance).

Another approach, a less violent approach, is to let the unwholesome habits fade away through neglect.

There is an old saying, “The seeds you water are the seeds that grow.”

Transforming our minds so they do not habitually turn to the negative emotions of hate or greed or revenge is a slow process – a Practice.

We slowly let go, piece by piece of the harmful patterns.

We begin this letting go knowing these patterns.

We learn these patterns through observation.

We observe through meditation.
