An Expansion of Our World View
Dogen's description of meditation point to a radical expansion of our view of the world. That is, through a meditation based life, awareness of the interconnection of all things expands our sense of self beyond the conventional confines of a world centered on our personal egos. Thus, the distinctions between us and others becomes less significant. More and more we feel the joy and pain of others. This helps us to be compassionate and leads to action that helps others and ourselves by way of loving-kindness.
