P'ang Yun (d. 808). A famous lay practitioner of Ch'an during the T'ang dynasty (618-907), also known as 'Layman Pang'. He studied with many of the eminent Ch'an masters of his day and attained several profound enlightenment experiences (satori). He is known as the source of the saying, "My supernatural powers? I carry water and chop wood."
