There were times when we, new initiates to Buddhism, did not desire enlightenment only for ourselves. These days, a thousand spears compete for power; in all directions, suffering people kill one another. Hiding your head, sitting in comfort, enjoying conveniences by yourselves, having wisdom but no compassion--how can you be a Buddhist? I dare ask you to make every effort to suppress war. Please love our King and care for our country with an unquenchable heart.
