You can do jerk-type things, or you can avoid doing jerk-like things. The moment you know that jerk-like action does not exist outside your own conduct, that is realization of the truth.
This is not a once-and-for-all realization. It appears dynamically, moment after moment. When enlightened people understand that not being a jerk requires not doing jerk-like things, they behave like decent people at each moment in the past, present, and future.
