Walnut Relish
2/3 cup of crumbled or chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons of sake
2 tablespoons of soy sauce
1 tablespoon of sugar (optional)
Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and simmer over medium heat for 3 minutes.
The sugar is not necessary, but use it if you want a sweet relish. Increase the sugar if you want a very sweet relish.
Cool the the relish.
Serve it in small individual dishes or family style in one bowl.
Eat this as a relish, snack, a garnish for rice or vegetables or tofu.
The flavor is strong, so small servings are sufficient.
It will keep for a very long time if it is refrigerated.
