Samantabhadra


Samantabhadra is the bodhisattva of enlightening activity in the world, representing the shinning function of wisdom. Samantabhadra also embodies the singular web of the interconnectedness of all beings and all things.

His name means "Universal Virtue" or "Universal Worthy" or "Universal Good."

The name Samantabhadra is the Sanskrit name of the bodhisattva. In Chinese he is call Puxian. In Japanese he is named Fugen.

Samantabhadra and Manjusri are often depicted as attendants, one on either side, of Shakyamuni Buddha. Manjusri is usually shown on his lion representing the essence of wisdom. Samantabhadra is most oftem shown mounted on his elephant representing the application of wisdom actively benefiting All Things.
