Stop Feeding It

The Buddha taught his students we perform actions by one of three ways: deeds, words, and thoughts.

Scratching your nose is a deed. Saying, “Good morning,” is words. Our thoughts are all things within the mind.

The Buddha taught all unwholesome actions have their roots, their beginnings, in the Three Poisons: Desire (or Greed), Anger (or Hatred), and Delusion (or Ignorance).

In the evening, before bed, stop and consider, “Did I perform an unwholesome act today?” If the answer is yes, see if you can find which of the poisons was the geneses of the unwholesome act.

If you discover the seed of an unwholesome action you may be able to stop feeding it. If you can stop feeding an unwholesome action it will cease.
