The Four Truths
The Buddha calls unfulfillment and discontent dukkha. The word is very hard to translate because it implies so much: unfulfillment, discontent, inner emptiness, pain, grief, tragedy, and unsatisfactoriness are all part of it.
The First of the Four Noble Truths: The Truth of Dukkha = Life is Dukkha
The Second of the Four Noble Truths: The Cause of Dukkha = Desire is the Cause
The Third of the Four Noble Truth: The Cessation of Dukkha = Nirvana
The Fourth of the Four Noble Truths: The Path Leading to the Cessation of Dukkha = The Eightfold Path
