The Samyutta Nikaya Explains the Twelve Links of Dependent Origination


When ignorance arises then action (mind formation) arises, when action (mind formation) arises then consciousness arises, when consciousness arises then name and form arises, when name and form arises then the six sense organs arise, when the six sense organs arise then contact arises, when contact arises then feelings arises, when feelings arises then craving arises, when craving arises then grasping arises, when grasping arises then becoming arises, when becoming arises then birth arises, when birth arises then aging, death, grief, sorrow, misery and dukkha all arise.
