In the beginning stages of training we are engaging our lives in ways that we never did before. We are examining ourselves honestly and exhaustively. We are approaching all of life with a student's mind. Most of us spend a lifetime hiding from ourselves. Pursuing a genuine spiritual practice demands that we study the self without flinching or turning our gaze away—a very difficult proposition.
