Helping Others and Oneself, Equally

It's by serving the Buddha Dharma that we serve others and ourselves. Serving ourselves and serving others cannot be separated.

Remember if on a flight and the oxygen masks are deployed, you are to put one on yourself before helping the person next to you.

You cannot help others if you're in stress.

This integration of serving others and oneself contrasts with Western individualism and with certain Christian ideas of selfless devotion and sacrifice.

This equality of care is one of the great insights of Buddhism.
