The
non-conceptual nature of Chan (Zen) is apparent in the catch phrases
that became popular in Sung China. Chan (Zen) trainees took their
cues from such expressions as:
- No dependence on words.
- A personal transmission outside the standard teachings.
- Direct pointing to the mind.
- Seeing the mind is becoming the Buddha.
