The Great Heart of Perfect Wisdom Sutra (The Heart Sutra)
Avalokitshevara, the Bodhisattva of Perfect Compassion, when asked by Shariputra for instruction on the path of liberation, looked deeply into the reality of all five skandhas and realized their emptiness. He then instructed Shariputra:
Shariputra, every form is itself emptiness and emptiness itself is every form. Every form is nothing other than emptiness and emptiness nothing other than every form. The same is true of every feeling, every thought, every impulse, and consciousness itself.
Shariputra, every phenomenon too is empty and emptiness is the nature of all phenomenon.
Shariputra, the nature of emptiness is that there is no birth or death, no being or non being, no defilements or purity, no suffering or not suffering.
Shariputra, one who comes to this perfect wisdom realizes there is nothing to attain.
Shariputra, bodhisattvas who practice this perfect wisdom have cleared all obstructions from their minds and can overcome all obstacles and fear, eliminate all wrong perceptions and realize nirvana.
Shariputra, all Buddhas of the past, present and future have this perfect wisdom and attained perfect enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.
Therefore Shariputra, we should know and proclaim this perfect wisdom and put an end to all suffering. It is the Great Mantra, the perfect Mantra, the Mantra to put an end to all suffering,
Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone beyond the beyond, awake, so be it.
Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone beyond the beyond, awake, so be it.
Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone beyond the beyond, awake, so be it.
