Starving-Student Broccoli Casserole


6 slices of soft white bread, torn into bite-sized pieces
3 large eggs
1/4 cup of whole milk
4 tablespoons of butter, melted
1 cup of grated cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon of salt
3 tablespoons of sugar
2 cups of fine chopped broccoli florets

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Butter an 8-inch baking dish. Cover the bottom with the torn bread.

Combine the eggs, the milk, the melted butter, the cheese, the salt, and the sugar in a bowl. Mix until everything is combined. Stir in the broccoli.

Pour the mixture over the bread.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes.

For a chewier topping, remove the foil during the last 10 minutes of baking.

If you desire a crispy crust, run the casserole under the broiler.
