Livelihood


The Five Precepts:

1...To respect life and avoid causing harm or death.

2...To respect the property of others and avoid taking what is not freely given.

3...To respect personal boundaries and avoid sexual misconduct.

4...To respect others and avoid false, harmful, and harsh speech.

5...To respect oneself and avoid anything that would interfere with one's mindfulness.

An occupation that involves harming or killing, stealing or fraud, sexual misconduct, lying or the spreading of rumors, or the manufacture or selling of drugs or alcohol is not Right or Correct or Proper Livelihood.

Making weapons or profiting from the superstitions of others (by selling good-luck charms or palm reading or tarot reading or offering astrological services) is not  Right or Correct or Proper Livelihood.
