Molasses Cake


3/4 cup of molasses
1 egg
1/2 cup of sour milk or buttermilk
1 1/2 cups of flour
1 tablespoon of baking soda
1/4 cup of boiling water

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Combine the molasses, the egg, and the milk thoroughly.

Stir in the flour.

Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water, then add it to the batter and stir well.

Pour the batter into a greased and floured 8-inch square cake pan.

Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

Serve with whipped cream, fruit, and always hot teas or coffee.
