Engaged Buddhism

The Venerable Mahathera Narada tells us that "Buddhism teaches its followers to elevate the lowly, help the poor, the needy and the forlorn, tend the sick, comfort the bereaved, pity the wicked, and enlighten the ignorant." It was precisely this impulse that led Thich Nhat Hanh to promote "engaged Buddhism" which encourages Buddhist practitioners to work for social justice as well as enlightenment.
