Buddhism is Not a Passive Tradition

Let a person guard themselves against irritability in action;
let them be controlled in deed.
Abandoning bodily misconduct,
let them practice good conduct in deed.

Let a person guard themselves against irritability in speech;
let them be controlled in speech.
Abandoning verbal misconduct,
let them practice good conduct in speech.

Let a person guard themselves against irritability in thought;
let them be controlled in mind.
Abandoning mental misconduct,
let them practice good conduct in thought.

---The Dhammapada, verses 231 - 233---
