Awareness

I'm in a neighborhood shop. The person behind the counter is not, in my opinion, being as warm or friendly as I'd like.

Now do I get irritated? 

Do I complain under my breath? Do I complain to others?

Maybe the person behind the counter is tired, or ill, or had an argument with their partner. Maybe a relative has just died. Maybe the last customer was rude.

Maybe, just maybe, it is all a projection on my part.
