Samhain Cider

3 oranges
3 teaspoons of whole cloves
1 gallon of orange juice
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
1 cinnamon stick
1 cup of fresh orange juice

Wash the oranges well, then stud them with the cloves.

Pour the cider into a large pot and warm over low heat.

When the cider is warm add the studded oranges, the cinnamon, the nutmeg, and the cinnamon stick. Stir gently and simmer, uncovered for 15 minutes.

Add the orange juice. Allow the mixture to heat through.

Serve the cider in mugs.

Note: To stud the oranges, first use an ice pick or an hors d'oeuvres pick to puncture the orange peel. These holes allow the whole cloves to easily be inserted into skin without breaking.

The studded oranges can be sliced and eaten as a warm-sweet snack.
