The Finger Pointing At The Moon

All words about spiritual paths are simply words like other words. They're hints. Don’t hold onto the words as if they're the Reality. They're hints, similar to the way a finger can point to the moon.

Don’t try to catch hold of the finger. The finger is not the moon.

Although the finger is pointing at the moon, it is only a hint.

There's a temple in Japan that has no statue of Gautama Buddha. Instead of a statue, there's a finger pointing to a far away moon.

The temple teaches us, reminds us, that the Buddha is a finger pointing to the moon. Don’t worship the finger - that won't help you. Look to where the finger is pointing, the moon. Forget the finger, forget the scriptures, forget the masters, forget all your religions; just try to find out what they are all trying to teach.

Look and you'll be surprised to find thousands of fingers pointing at the moon, the same moon.
